*DIANA REMEMBERED $12.95qt Zones 3 - 9
Sorry, you won't find a shrine erected for the late princess here, but you will find this splendid new hosta named in her honor. This is a plant with lovely variegated foliage and wonderful, large and fragrant white 3 inch tubular flowers on 2 foot scapes in late summer. A hybrid of H. plantaginea, the August Lily hosta, it combines better vigor with broadly ovate blue-green leaves and creamy white margins, spreading to 33 inches across. One of our favorites!

*FRIED GREEN TOMATOES $6.95 qt Zones 3 - 9
This 'pumped up' hosta reminds me of the hosta classic 'Royal Standard' on steroids. Bigger, more substantial green leaves have a powdery sheen on a plant growing to 5 feet wide. The buds and flowers are large, pale lavender and spring open into white trumpets….thick with perfume for you, and nectar for hungry hummingbirds. Another great plant with H. plantaginea heritage.

rectifolia FUJIBOTON $9.95 qt Zones 3 - 8
This is an exciting new introduction with stunning fully double blooms of lavender pink, held aloft on 4 foot scapes in late summer….a totally awesome specimen plant! The name Fuji refers to Mt. Fuji, where this gem was collected, and botan is in reference to the tree peony. Clumps spread to 24 inches across.

*GUACAMOLE $7.95 qt Zones 3 - 9

A very popular hosta with H. plantaginea parentage. The gold centered, green margined leaves are large and intensify in color during the growing season. Robust stems of fat white buds open in late summer, laden with thick perfume. Hummers love it. For the best flower production, give this beauty several hours of sun a day.

Deep green pointed and leathery leaves are sun and slug resistant. Incredible profusion of deep lavender blooms in autumn, when other hosta have finished.

From its other parent, 'Regal Rhubarb', it has inherited dark purple petioles that merge into the large, deep green, and corrugated leaves. A stunning combination of foliage and flowers on vigorous clumps.

* H. plantaginea $12.95 GL Zones 3 - 9
This is one of the loveliest hostas I have ever grown. The sun tolerant leaves are a bright green, and highly glossed, forming lush mounds up to three feet across. Spectacular white, trumpet shaped blooms emerge in August, and scent the garden with extravagant perfume. This is one of the most heat tolerant of hosta, great for southern climates.

Glossy, deepest green leaves of heavy substance and unique clusters of spidery lavender flowers in midsummer. The vigorous mounds spread to 4 feet across. A hybrid of H. yingeri.

*RASPBERRY SORBET $6.95 qt Zones 3 - 8
These are neat, low mounds of smooth textured, shiny, dark green leaves, a cross of H. rupifraga and H. 'Shining Tot'. In August, vividly colored reddish-purple scapes arise laden with blue-purple flowers that open widely. This would make a stunning groundcover for smaller areas. Grows 28 inches across.

Hostas with Flower Power
2008 Listings

Here are hostas with the showiest and most fragrant blooms ….spectacular planted as groundcover! The larger types are wonderful for patio plantings and containers, where hummingbirds will be attracted to their sweetly scented flowers. Many of these selections can be grown in the warmer climate of Zone 9, as well as more northern climates to Zone 3.

An asterisk* indicates hostas that have sun tolerance (morning sun preferred in hot summer climates) with sufficient irrigation during dry spells being key for best results. Hostas will not be as sun tolerant in Zones 8 and 9.
