ACTINIDIA

AMPELOPSIS

This vigorous vine has beautiful foliage and fruit. The green, grape-like
leaves are heavily splashed with white. Pink petioles and new growth are
pink, lending a multi-tone effect. Clusters of berries appear in summer,
ripening to a turquoise blue. Height 10 - 25 feet
ARISTOLOCHIA

This native Dutchman's Pipe, a host for the pipevine swallowtail butterfly,
climbs by winding stems upwards to 20-30 feet. The large, heart shaped leaves
create a lush curtain, and in spring, peeking behind the curtain will reveal

CELASTRUS

This species is our native bittersweet, not to be confused with C. orbiculatus,
the Chinese bittersweet that is a rampant, invasive weed. American bittersweet
is a vigorous, twining, dioecious (plants are either male or female) vine
growing to 15 feet or more. The beautiful clusters of orange fruit are prized
for autumn decorating. We offer containers with both male and female plants,
for better fruiting.
CLEMATIS

These hybrids are quite vigorous, with smaller blooms that are more dainty
than the large flowered group. We find them more disease resistant, too
and less prone to the dreaded clematis wilt. We have several mature specimens
on display in our lath house, spectacular in May and June!

Nodding, flat-open white flowers 3 inches across with striking green centers,

Clematis 'Avant-Garde' $16.95 GL Zones 4 - 9
This is one of the new Evison/ Poulsen clematis, having been bred from resistant
wild clematis species for disease resistance. They are extremely cold hardy,
but at the same time, flower well in warmer climates. 'Avant-Garde' is beautiful,
with very unusual 3 inch red flowers, and fluffy pink petaloid stamens,
the whole resembling a double flower. Unbelievably beautiful! Height 10
feet.

This is one of the new Evison / Poulsen clematis, having been bred from
resistant wild clematis species for disease resistance. They are extremely
cold hardy, but at the same time, flower well in warmer climates. 'Crystal
Fountain' is a large flowered cultivar, bearing lilac blue blossoms with
a fountain like center of white petaloid stamens. Height 10 feet. Clematis

Just like Superman, able to leap small (and maybe tall) buildings in a single
bound. I planted it on the outside wall of our seven-foot lath house, home
to our retail shade plants. Mistake. C'est la vie! This vigorous selection
needs a sturdy, tall support (say 10 feet), and will reward with a bounty
of lovely 1.5 inch white flowers that are fragrant in early summer. Very
pest and disease resistant, and quite beautiful. Height 12 - 15 feet.

Hyacinth blue semi-nodding open bells, a hybrid of C. integrifolia and C.
viticella. Non-clinging, and long blooming. Height 4 - 5 feet.

Available June 2008. August is a special time when this lovely, very showy
clematis comes into bloom. The large, nodding flowers, a rich golden yellow,
are centered with violet stamens. Establishes quickly, growing 8-10 feet.

This is the widely grown Sweet Autumn Clematis, a very vigorous grower covered
in small, very fragrant, white flowers in early September. (Cannot ship).

Available June 2008. A knockout with tiny, fragrant, starry purple-red flowers
shading to white, born en masse on vines to 8-10 feet. We have this planted
on our purple gazebo.

A gorgeous new hybrid bearing large petunia red flowers with creamy yellow
anthers. The plant's strong, compact growing habit and free flowering nature

This rare and beautiful golden leaved sport of the Silver Lace vine is much
slower growing than the rampant species. I planted several on our lath house
wall last summer, but the jury is still out on how well it will perform
in our gardens. A lovely thing, with late summer fluffy sprays of white
flowers. This could be a gorgeous container subject, grown as an annual,
and trained on a wire obelisk. Height 8 - 10 feet.
GELSEMIUM sempervirens 'Margarita' (Carolina Jessamine) $16.95 GL

I wish, I wish, I wish for a hardier Carolina Jessamine. Looks like my dreams
may very well have come true. This lovely native of the southern U.S., with
a beautiful framework of winding stems clad in semi-evergreen leaves, bears
fragrant yellow trumpet blooms in spring and early summer. Adventurous gardeners
in Zone 6, and possibly 5b, would do well to plant 'Margarita' in a sheltered
spot, improving the chance for winter survival. Leaves, flowers and stems
are highly toxic. A 2005 Pennsylvania Horticultural Society award winner.
Deer and pest resistant, too! Height 12 feet. Spread 6 feet.
HYDRANGEA petiolaris 'Tiliifolia' (Little Leaf Climbing Hydrangea) $18.95

A very dainty, tiny-leaved climbing Hydrangea with white, lace cap blooms
in early summer. Leaf size increases with age. This lovely woody vine climbs
by clinging aerial rootlets that attach to tree bark, brick or stone, and
sturdy wood arbors. At maturity, climbing hydrangea develops a beautiful
framework of exfoliating cinnamon-brown bark, particularly handsome in winter.
'Tiliifolia' has the ability to cover up to 20-30 feet, but can be maintained
at lower heights by annual pruning. Be patient, plants are quite vigorous
after roots are established, which may take several years. Provide rich,
moist, but well drained soil in part to full shade.
LONICERA (Honeysuckle) Sun to part shade / Zones 4 - 9 / Deer
resistant / Hummingbird and Butterfly Attractor
Honeysuckles can be treasured garden plants or vicious thugs. Our selections
are tried and true performers, perfect for fence or arbor plantings, and
non invasive. These are twining, deciduous vines, blooming in early summer
with some repeat throughout summer, and are adaptable to sun, or partially
sunny areas. Songbirds are attracted to the late summer and autumn berries.Best
blooming occurs in full sun. You need one for your hummingbird haven!!!

Lonicera periclymenum 'Graham Thomas' $14.95 GL
This vigorous and pest resistant honeysuckle is a hybrid of our native woodbines,
L. caprifolium and L. sempervirens. It's a beauty. Large creamy yellow and
white blooms are richly scented, and appear en masse in June. Red berries
in late summer and fall are loved by songbirds. Height 15 feet.
Lonicera sempervirens 'Magnifica' (Coral Honeysuckle) $16.95 GL
A selected cultivar of our native American honeysuckle, with intense orange-red
blooms en masse in May and June. How can anyone garden without at least

WISTERIA

This is a lovely selection of our native wisteria, more restrained and daintier
than the ever popular, but thuggish Asian species. Flowers appear en masse
on new growth in early summer. The smaller, fragrant blue flowers appear
later than Asian types, and modestly repeat bloom throughout summer. Height
15 - 20 feet.
